Ann Thomson & Joe Furlonger: Sanbao

Renowned Australian artists Ann Thomson and Joe Furlonger present a novel dialogue between cultures in the form of a group exhibition at the Nockart Gallery. Produced during an artist residency in Jingdezhen, the ceramic capital of China, Thomson and Furlonger explore ceramic painting in the Chinese tradition, with a distinctly Australian sensibility. The artists innate mastery of colour and form and proclivity toward the landscape refracted through the lens of traditional Chinese underglaze pigment on ceramic produces a unique and exciting blend of visual texture and cultural context. Alongside the ceramic vessels, Thomson and Furlonger display works of ink on paper and paint on canvas respectively painted during, and inspired by, their time in Jingdezhen.
